paul ryan and donald trump are doing a joint appearance in new york city just a couple weeks ago. now glen beck is doing a gala fund-raiser with dick cheney with 12 days to go before the election. i can't -- >> first of all, the glenn beck thing, to me, suggests he's still trying to win over the base of the republican party. or the craziest part of the base. but as you indicated, he's trying, romney is trying to hide his real positions, have this mask of moderation. he's running a pseudo pro-choice. i don't even want to dignify it with that label. ad. and so, and he's trying to, you know, put mourdock in the closet with akin. and, yet, it's all undone by appearance by glenn beck or donald trump. at the same time, on the foreign policy front, after presenting himself in the last debate as a peace nick, who said, i don't want to have another iraq or afghanistan. you know, he took back every single position -- this is, of course, what colin powell was alluding to -- to be involved with dick cheney, completely undoes that. dick cheney is the foreign policy who supposedly disowning las

take a live look at new york city. welcome back to morning joe. back with us onset we have mike barnacle. >> can we go right there? >> we got to set this up first. we've all been saying the same thing around the set. phone calls coming in all last night from democratic friends, my independent friends, republicans. where does this come from? we've never seen this mitt romney before. but you say you have. >> yes, this is how mitt romney became governor of massachusetts in 2002 during a series of debates. he was exactly this way, as he was last night. he came in prepared. he had a plan. he executed it. he was armed with specific information. he went right at the opponent. then it was the governor running against him. he did that again last night, very effectively. >> and he seemed, for the first time, comfortable in his skin. we've been pounding mitt romney, despite what cheetos eaters thought on the internet, because he had a horrible, horrible month. he was uncomfortable in his skin. last night that guy was -- i agree, the best republican debate in

now you have this first incidence of water level, the lincoln tunnel, the holland tunnel is closed. how much damage can water do to a metropolis like new york? >> oh, my goodness, you get water in the subway system and you start dealing with the electrical transmission lines and, you know, you could have extensive damage there. as a matter of fact, if they start hearing that those tunnels are filling with water, you know, you know what you do -- and we see this all the time with tropical systems, they will shut down the electric grid. they will start shutting down to prevent power loss in transformers, you know, dealing with all that electricity. so, you know, i think that's the big thing. and i think 7 to 9:00 tonight we'll find out if we're going to get water in the subways. but if reports were from last year with irene that we were within a foot of getting water in the subways and now the surge is already 2.2 feet higher than it was with irene, there's a pretty good chance we could get it in the subway. >> i hear the lincoln is still working. let me ask you about just back again
